Before You Book
Common Questions
What does a guided trapping trip cost?
Guided fur trapping starts at $400 with a two-day minimum, and additional days are $250 each. Guided bear trapping is a specialised six-day hunt from $2,100 per week.
Why is there a two-day minimum?
Because trapping is a line rather than an afternoon. Day one is scouting and setting traps, day two is checking the lines and remaking sets. One day would show you how to set a trap without showing you how trapping actually works.
What species will we be targeting?
Beaver, otter, bobcat, fisher and marten on the fur trapping trips, depending on the ground and the time of year. Maine also holds muskrat, mink, coyote, red and grey fox. We will be honest about what is realistic for your dates.
How is bear trapping different?
It is a six-day hunt using foot snares on private land, which is the most effective way to take a specific mature bear. The price covers private land access, baiting and daily guide service. Meals, lodging, tags and butcher fees are not included, and Maine allows one bear per year.
Do I need a trapping licence?
You carry a valid Maine trapping licence, and Maine requires trapper education before a first licence is issued. Tell us where you stand and we will point you at what you need in good time for your dates.
Is this suitable for a complete beginner?
It is one of the best things we do for a beginner. Trapping is hard to learn from a book and straightforward to learn on a working line with someone who runs one. We adhere to Best Management Practices throughout.
