What kinds of fishing trips do you run?
Five: river wading on the Kennebec, Dead and Rapid, float trips through the Solon, Bingham and Shawmut stretches, lake and pond fishing from canoes in the Belgrade Lakes, remote pond trips off the grid, and winter ice fishing. Starting prices run from $250 for ice fishing to $500 for a remote expedition.
What will we be fishing for?
Native brook trout and landlocked salmon on the wading trips, brown and rainbow trout and smallmouth on the float trips, northern pike and largemouth and smallmouth bass on the lakes, and Arctic char and wild brook trout on the remote ponds. Spring brings the shad and striped bass run on the Kennebec.
Do I need a fishing licence?
Yes, if you are 16 or over, and Maine sells short-term licences that suit visitors well. Children under 16 fish without one.
Is gear included?
Yes. You should not have to worry about the gear, the boat or the navigation. Rods, tackle and bait are provided where the trip calls for them. Bring your own if you would rather fish your own kit.
Which trip suits a family or a mixed-ability group?
Lake and pond fishing in the Belgrade Lakes, or ice fishing in winter. Both are comfortable, there is plenty happening, and the bass, pike and perch bite often enough to hold a child's attention.
